New CEO at Mercedes-Benz Retail Group
Angela Shepherd has been appointed as the new CEO at Mercedes-Benz Retail Group, the manufacturer owned UK dealer group.
Currently Operations Director at Mercedes-Benz UK, a post she has held for five years, Shepherd will head up a retail group that is rated 14 in the Motor Trader Top 200 with annual turnover of £1.07bn, employs over 1500 staff, and operates from 18 retail sites, eight used car sites and 12 smart centres across London, Birmingham and Manchester.
Prior to this she was Head of Training at Mercedes-Benz UK in Milton Keynes with responsibility for it’s academy, which delivers training programmes for Mercedes-Benz cars, trucks and vans.
It’s heartening to see a woman promoted to such a pivotal position in an industry that is seen by many as male dominated. It often appears that the retail motor industry has very clear demarcations on the roles filled by men and women, and the more we see women promoted to this type of role, the more likely we are to see these stereotypes challenged.
In many ways the retail motor trade is a meritocratic industry where your background and education matter little in the opportunities that present themselves, but we still see very few women working as Dealer Principals or even as departmental managers.
